41 per cent of motorists driving with unsafe tyres

Some 41 per cent of the motorists were found to be driving with dangerously conditioned tyres. Despite statistics highlighting the risks of driving with faulty tyres, motorists are continuing to put their lives at risk.

In view of this, the Dubai Police and Michelin carried out a joint campaign to make motorists aware of tyre care.

During the campaign, expert teams were dispatched to locations across the UAE to give motorists free tyre checks, including pressure checks and adjustments.

More than 200 vehicles were checked over 15 days, during which 26 per cent were found to have damaged or unsafe tyres. Almost 60 per cent of the cars checked had UAE travellers, while the remaining 40 per cent had travellers from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.

Lieutenant Saif Muhair Saeed Al Mazroui, Deputy Head of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, commented, “It is our responsibility to ensure that drivers are not compromising their lives and those of their families.

Drivers may not be aware that these extreme heat conditions can severely affect the state of their tyres and, therefore, cause accidents.”

Hany Abdul Samad, marketing manager for Michelin Middle East, said, “We hope that through such important initiatives and alliances, we are able to provide safer mobility to educate drivers and avoid unnecessary accidents.”
