Ajman Police have confiscated 332 bicycles as their drivers were found flouting safety norms. The crackdown comes as part of the strategic plan of the ministry of interior to ensure road safety and deter road-users from breaching traffic rules.
Traffic and patrolling department of Ajman Police recently launched a two-week campaign to nab cyclists who violated regulations while driving without wearing fluorescent jackets.
Major Fouad Ali Al Khaja, director of the traffic and patrolling department, pointed out that the campaign was mainly aimed at curbing traffic accidents on Ajman roads and to raise awareness of road-users, particularity Asian cyclists who form the majority among cycle users. They were told about the importance of abiding by traffic rules to ensure their safety and wear fluorescent jackets and safety helmets.
"The campaign was carried out on various roads in Ajman which witness traffic accidents. It was also held in all the industrial areas where majority of the bikers reside. Besides this, we targeted various residential areas as many groceries and supermarkets have delivery men who use cycles to do their job," the director said.
