An Asian woman managed to escape from a gang of three Asians who allegedly confined her in a flat and forced her to commit sexual acts.
Speaking at a court hearing in Sharjah, her saviour, a 20-year-old Asian man, said he managed to help her after he noticed some papers being thrown in the vicinity of his home in the Yarmouk area.
The eyewitness, Mohammed Shoaib, an employee of a Sharjah real estate company, told Khaleej Times he noticed papers being thrown from the third flood as was walking. When he went to investigate the papers, he saw the words "help me" and a phone number written in English.
When he called the phone number, the woman responded in Arabic, which Shoaib said he couldn't understand. When he went back to his home, he said he felt something was wrong.
The following day, he went to work and told a colleague about his experiences. He asked the colleague to call the woman. The woman told his colleague she was being held in the flat against her will and was being forced into prostitution by the gang. She said they assaulted her when she refused to comply with their demands.
She said she was in a poor psychological and physical state. Shoaib and his colleague promptly called the police and guided them to the flat.
After taking permission from the Sharjah Public Prosecution, the police raided the flat, arrested the three suspects and freed the woman. During the court hearing, the three accused denied the accusations, despite having confessed the crime to the arresting officers.
The woman was allegedly dragged to the flat and found herself in forced prostitution.
The three men were charged with human trafficking.
Meanwhile, in another case, the court heard the testimony of an Asian man who was also charged with confining a woman with the intent of forcing her into prostitution and allegedly using threats and psychological torture to restrict her movements. In court, he denied the accusation.
