The Sharjah Police have confiscated 13 vehicles after their owners were found driving recklessly. In some cases, the vehicles's engines were modified.

Ahmed bin Darwish, Director of Patrols Department, told Khaleej Times the vehicles were confiscated after inspections were stepped up during the three-day Eid break.

Some of the cars were modified to "produce annoying sounds" that disturbed residents, said bin Darwish.

He said the police launched a campaign during the Eid break to put an end to such kind of violations that could lead to loss of lives and property.

"We have zero tolerance towards those committing such dangerous violations for fun and pleasure," said bin Darwish.

He warned that the police will continue the inspection campaign.
