The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality is all set to auction off 104 unclaimed vehicles that have been impounded for over six months without being claimed by their owners.
The said vehicles have been impounded from different places over time, according to Munzir bin Shukr Al Zaabi, director general of the RAK Municipality.
"Some of these vehicles were left abandoned on public roads and squares, while others were left around scrap outlets for a long time."
Warning letters had been initially stuck on all of these abandoned vehicles. "As the owners of these vehicles failed to remove them on time (10 days), it resulted in their impoundment," he added.
As per law, not claiming these vehicles during a grace period of six months will end them being sold in a public auction, he warned.
The details of this auction will be announced in the newspapers soon.
"However, the owners of these vehicles will have one more chance before the auctions kicks off in a few days to collect their vehicles back after making full payment of the due fees and fines."
Few days back, the RAK police announced that they have impounded 1,518 abandoned vehicles in two months.
