The fog formation that started on Tuesday night continued on Wednesday morning and authorities have urged motorists to be cautious while driving. Morning traffic on Sharjah-Dubai road has also been slowed down by the fog with heavy traffic on some areas.
The Abu Dhabi Police announced speed limit reduction on major roads to 80kmph to ensure the safety of motorists. The force also called on motorists to drive carefully and follow the speed limit notifications on electronic boards.
The reduced speed limit is effective on Abu Dhabi - Al Ain road (Al Amerah – Rimah), Abu Dhabi - Sweihan road, Maktoum Bin Rashid road (Abu Dhabi - Dubai), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid road (Abu Dhabi – Dubai), Abu Dhabi - Al Ain road (Sweihan - Al Hiyar) and Al Ain – Dubai road till the fog is over, the police said.
Fog formation is visible over Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain airports, the National Centre of Meteorology announced on its social media channels. Other affected areas include Sweihan, Nazwa/Maleha (Sharjah), Emirates Rd nearby Al Aweer (Dubai), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd nearby the Global Village and Dubai Industrial City (Dubai), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd (Umm Al Quwain), Rimah – Al Sad Rd/ Swiehan – Al Sad Rd (Abu Dhabi – Al Ain), and over Al Ain – Al Faqa Rd (Al Ain).
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd/Emirates Rd (Ajman), Fog over Al Khtam (Abu Dhabi) / Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashed Rd / Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Rd (Abu Dhabi – Dubai Rd) / Abu Dhabi – Swiehan Rd and Ras Al Khor Rd in Dubai are also affected, the centre alerted.
