Indian and Chinese tourists can now get visa on arrival to Malaysia in six new entry points.
Since July 15, tourists from India and China are eligible to apply for visa on arrival from six additional entry points: Langkawi Airport in Kedah, Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration check point in Kedah, Miri International Airport in Sarawak, Sungai Tujuh checkpoint in Sarawak, Labuan ferry jetty and Sultan Abdul Aziz International Airport in Subang.
This brings the total approved points of entry to 12. When Malaysia first implemented the visa on arrival policy in October 2015, there were only six ports.
Tourists of the two Asian countries entering Malaysia from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand will be given visa on arrival. Visas on arrival can only be issued by selected entry points in the Southeast Asian country.
Tour operators welcomed the move. They also pointed out that the facility could still be improved, according to reports in the Inquirer. Albert Tan Sam Soon, president of Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association, said that all entry points in the country should be allowed to issue visas on arrival, including Sabah and Penang. Neither state is listed as point of entry for issuance of visa on arrival.
Operators are also hoping for lower fees and a longer validity period. Furthermore, they suggested that that government should consider a visa waiver two years down the road.
