According to a senior officer, the move, in line with the directives of Major-General Shaikh Taleb bin Sager Al Qassimi, Chief Commandant of the RAK Police, is aimed at decreasing congestion and enhancing traffic flow.

Brigadier Mohammed Al Noobi, Deputy Chief Commandant of the RAK Police, said the partial blocking of the road starting from Al Gasidat Roundabout to the Shaml Wedding Hall for development works has created traffic blocks in the area.

“The decision also coincides with the end of the academic year; meaning that heavy trucks shall be banned again from running on the emirate’s internal roads by the beginning of the new academic year.”

He added that more traffic patrols shall be deployed on all roads here to ensure smooth traffic flow.

On June 4, heavy trucks running on the Al Faliya road, known as Al Fanus, RAK, were diverted to a new road.

Col Abdullah Ali, Director of the Traffic and Patrols department, RAK Police, said the move has been in response to the many complaints raised on the RAK live radio programme about the traffic jams in the area which has several institutions, hospitals and universities.

“All heavy and light vehicle drivers have to comply with the set traffic rules and regulations, and reckless motorists shall be stringently dealt with to ensure traffic flow.”

Three injured

Meanwhile, three Asian workers sustained several injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at the Wadi Al Beih area.

A civil defence source said investigations showed that the injured workers, M.K., 50; R.G., 43; and N.A., 33, all Asians were travelling in a RAK Municipality vehicle.

“The trio was shifted to the Sager Hospital for medical care and treatment.”

Tinting of glasses

Further, the RAK Traffic Police have warned motorists not to flout the regulations regarding tinting of glasses in cars.

A police source warned that such violation draws a fine of Dh500 and impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days.
