According to Major Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at the UAQ Police Directorate General, the emirate witnessed 1,223 accidents in the first five months of this year, resulting in seven deaths and three injuries.

“The road mishaps recorded are basically attributed to motorists’ inattentive driving, speeding and none-adherence to traffic rules and regulations,” he added. Bin Aran said the three-month drive billed ‘Until When?’ is part of the Interior Ministry’s strategy to develop road users’ traffic awareness, and reduce the social and economic impact of traffic accidents.

“Ignoring speed limits on internal roads and highways, inattentive driving, talking on the cell phone while driving are some of the main reasons behind many traffic accidents,” said Captain Mohammed Obeid Al Muhairi, Head of the Salma Police Station. “All motorists are urged to abide by the traffic rules and regulations for the safety of themselves and others,” he added.
