GDRFA centres across the emirate will be closed for the Prophet's birthday, the authority announced
Drivers of towing vehicles in Abu Dhabi have been warned against transporting equipment and heavy machinery as such open-ended trucks don’t meet the security and safety requirements to carry such equipment.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abu Dhabi Police said towing vehicles are not designated to transport these types of equipment and that in doing so, they were posing danger to other road users and the safety of the road.
Police said special permits are given to trucks designated to carry heavy equipment for safe transport and that this service is not for towing vehicles.
Officials have pointed out that trucks carrying heavy equipment must have a permit authorising them to do so. “The permit is granted according to the specific work assigned to the vehicle through a contract, and the movement on the roads should be only at night,” police said in a statement.
“A truck must have special equipment to transport equipment and heavy machinery. The load should not exceed the dimensions of the vehicle and that the maximum height has to be five metres.”
Police said the load being carried should be placed and fixed safely on the truck so it doesn’t fall during the movement of the vehicle.
