The move was taken by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate as such daredevil stunt driving shows can result in tragedy leading to serious injuries and even deaths among the students, as well as cause damage to vehicles and other properties. Colonel Khamees Ishaq Mohammed, acting Director of Traffic and Patrols directorate in Abu Dhabi Police called on parents to prevent children from driving cars without a license.

School managements also called for prohibiting students from performing dangerous manoeuvering stunts and driving cars recklessly in front of others and thereby tempting them to ape such acts.

“The patrols and traffic sections in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region (Al Gharbia) are strictly enforcing the law, and will report such irresponsible practices to the bodies concerned to take legal action and punish the offenders,” he said. The Civil Traffic Intelligence personnel will hold up the offenders and impound their vehicles, he warned, noting that the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department will enhance awareness programmes and activities during the coming period with the aim of raising awareness among youth on the risks that result from doing such wrong actions.

Meanwhile, the Traffic and Patrols Section in Al Ain, an affiliate of the traffic and patrols directorate in Abu Dhabi announced chalking out a traffic plan meant for schools in the city at the end of the current academic year. It will deploy patrols continuously, to deal with reckless youths and issue them tickets for violating traffic laws. Coordination will be made with schools, Al Ain Education Zone and Abu Dhabi Education Council by informing the Traffic Intelligence Section in case of not abiding by the law.

Major Mohammed Salem Al Amiri, acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section advised parents to keep an eye on their children. He also called upon them to restrain from performing daredevil stunts.
