The nearly Dh200m-project consists of the construction of a 3km-long comprehensive wharfage which will be divided into 30 loading/unloading areas. The new wharf will allow around 400 dhows of different sizes to berth at the same time.
The wharfage has been designed with a depth of seven metres below the low water level and with all necessary anchorage elements. “This will allow Dubai Creek to receive and anchor bigger dhows which previously couldn’t enter there,” said Ibrahim Mohammed Juma, the head of Coastal Engineering Unit at the Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section of the municipality’s Environment Department.
Business Bay Canal
Lootah also announced a project to revive and complete the Business Bay Canal and its connection to the sea. Previously started by Dubai Holdings, the work on the prestigious project was halted later. It will now be completed by the Dubai Municipality.
The Dh200m project involves the connection of Business Bay Canal with sea through a pipeline system connecting the sea to the side of canal adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road. The canal waterway will be completed by connecting the existing manmade lagoons.
“We will take the water from the sea, pump it through the lagoons and flush it into the creek,” said Lootah.
This will improve the environmental state of the canal and upper part of the creek. The project is expected to enhance the economical state of the area adjacent to the canal and provide a unique waterbody suitable for leisure navigation.
