The RTA had set itself a fast-paced round-the-clock schedule in order to complete the maintenance works on time, meet the needs of road users and maintain road assets in the best operational condition.
Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “The RTA has completed the maintenance works of asphalt layers in a number of roads at the highest international standards. Over two weeks, works in the bridge have been divided to minimise congestions in the area. The first week saw the completion of Phase I extending from the 2nd of December Street up to Shaikh Rashid Street and Phase II was completed in the second week extending from direction inbound from Shaikh Rashid Street up to the bridge before the roundabout.
“These works were originally scheduled to be carried out at the beginning of this year, but RTA traffic surveys indicated that summer would be the perfect time for carrying out such works as the traffic movement would be minimal, considering the start of summer vacation, thus expediting the completion of road works.
“Maintenance works carried out are part of the agency’s policy to conserve, raise the efficiency and ensure the sustainability of assets through adopting the highest international standards to ensure compliance with safety specifications and highest quality of roads in use,” said Maitha.
