Under the new service, passengers can hire drivers (without taxis) for a limited period of time agreed upon between the two parties. The hiring individual or corporate customer must have a vehicle with comprehensive insurance and fuel.

Mohammed Yousef Salih, Director of Dubai Taxi Fleet Operations, RTA, said: “The launch of ‘Mashaweer’ service involves the deployment of drivers on call in order for the DTC to honour its commitments and deliver best-in-class services to taxi users.” Service requests can be placed through the DTC website, telephone or by receiving the customer in DTC Customers Service Office at Terminal 3, Dubai Airport.

The person who requests the service must provide transit service to the driver, either by providing a vehicle or paying the taxi fare needed for the driver to arrive at the customer’s destination.

“This initiative is primarily aimed at providing a community service to businesses as well as individuals living in Dubai through deploying fully trained and competent drivers up to the task required. The initiative is bound to be of benefit to both the DTC and the requester through bypassing the hassles of bringing drivers from abroad,” said Salih. The service is affordable, according to the official and has been fixed at Dh40 per hour for a minimum two hours.

It will be Dh250 for 8 hours, Dh1000 for a week, and Dh3,500 or a month.

By offering the new service, Dubai Taxi is seeking to curb negative practices where some individuals and companies tend to hire drivers who are in breach of the applicable legislations related to residency and others. “Moreover, it helps reserve the rights of all parties through contracts made, and deliver top quality service at competitive rates in flexible timeline and with multiple options,” said Salih.
