All training and inspection activities at driving institutes have been suspended for a period of two weeks, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced.
On its official Twitter handle, the RTA said the suspension of services includes opening a learning file to obtain driver's licence, starting Thursday.
Meanwhile, Emirates Driving Institute (EDI) sent messages to all its students with the update.  "EDI will be closed for two weeks with effect from Thursday, March 26. There will be no training or tests from today onwards including night training. EDI call centre, branches, and main centres will be closed. You can register and attend lectures online on," read the SMS.

The move is part of the ongoing efforts of the authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).
Renew driving licence online
Those who have their driving licence expired over the next three months may apply for renewal through smart applications, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced.

The service comes into effect from March 29 and allows for drivers' license renewal for up to one year, regardless of eyes' test or fines and black points.
The decision allows customers to fully process their transactions via the smart applications or the MoI website, to ensure that all vital services are provided without interruption.
