Sharjah - The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) will open the bridge at the Shaikh Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi intersection today after a three-day partial closure for repair works.

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al Hajiri, Director of the SRTA for Roads Affairs, on Saturday said the bridge was closed in one direction for those heading from Al Wahda road to Al Dhaid road on April 23.

“The partial closure was due to urgent maintenance works to boost the performance of the bridge and enhance safety and security of the bridge users,” he said.  All the worn out extension joints on the surface of the bridge were removed and replaced with new ones that were 7.3m-wide.

“The maintenance works will protect people’s lives and prevent traffic accidents and serious injuries, in addition to reinforcing the bridge on which heavy trucks ply,” said Al Hajiri.

The project is in pursuance to the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

“All road and transport projects are designed to accommodate current and future needs of urban expansion in the emirate, enhance traffic flow and raise the standard of living of residents.”
