Ahmed Abdel Razik Al Awadi, Executive Director of the Engineering Affairs Department, said the ambitious projects are being implemented as per the directives of Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Director-General of the municipality.

“The first quarter of this year witnessed renovation of various bridges and roads leading to the city centre including Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Bridge on Emirates Road and the road that connects the bridge to Emirates Road to ensure easy traffic flow for commuters to and from Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. We have completed 65 per cent of the project, which is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year.”

He added that the civic body has also paved various internal roads such as Al Rowda, Al Mowaihat and Al Jarf.

“We have prepared a design for the Mushairaf bridge project with three lanes in each direction on Al Ittihad Road to improve the traffic flow. The bridge is expected to cost Dh50 million and the work is expected to start this month.”

Work is currently in progress on the Al Talla-Tabourk road that will have two lanes in each direction and paving the road and placing signboards. The Al Jarf 21 road will be completed in the third quarter of this year to provide a paved road for residents of the area.

“We have started working on the expansion of the parking lot of the Fruits and Vegetable Market with 62 more spaces for the visitors who are finding it difficult to find parking spaces around the market.

“Apart from this, we have completed various projects at existing roads such as making a U-turn on Badr Road located near Al Rashedeya Bridge as this had been witnessing traffic jams,” Al Awadi said.

Another U-turn has been given on Al Hasan Bin Al Haytham Road at the intersection of Al Ithihad Road with the new industrial area. “Another road lane has been added to the City Centre Roundabout and we have placed protective metallic pillars at the Ajman Khor to protect motorists from falling in the khor while driving at night.”
