65 illegal taxis busted by Abu Dhabi Police

Abu Dhabi - According to the law, violators can be slapped with a minimum fine of Dh5,000 and a maximum of Dh10,000 and/or a 30-day imprisonment term.

The Abu Dhabi Police have recently booked 65 motorists for using their vehicles as taxis. The action is part of a campaign launched by the police to curb the practice of private cars operating as illegal taxis.
According to the law, violators can be slapped with a minimum fine of Dh5,000 and a maximum of Dh10,000 and/or a 30-day imprisonment term.
The penalty is double in case of a repeat violation.
Since the launch of the campaign two months ago, the total number of motorists booked has touched 115.
The police have urged residents to use only licensed taxis, warning that availing illegal taxi services is "dangerous".
