30 radars being installed on Fujairah roads
The Traffic and Patrols Department of the Fujairah Police has started installing new radars on various roads of the emirate to curb speeding and ensure the safety of road users.
According to Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi, Director-General of the Fujairah Police, the department has chalked out a plan with this aim for the year, and started installing 30 new radars on all streets of the emirate, five on new Shaikh Khalifa Highway. The police look forward to ensuring that this important and vital highway that links Fujairah with Dubai has zero accidents, he said.
A joint committee headed by Lieutenant-Colonel Ali bin Awash, Director of the department, and comprising Major Saleh Mohammed Abdullah from the directorate as well as representatives of the national company specialised in the field of radars has started installing the radars on the emirate’s streets. “The Dibba-Massafi and Khorfakkan Coast-Massafi roads have got the lion’s share of radars for they are the busiest,” he said.
“The move has been taken to curb speeding, reckless driving and ensure traffic safety on the emirate’s roads and streets,” he said, adding that it is also in view of the remarkable increase in the number of motor vehicles as 10,289 vehicles were registered in the emirate last year alone. “The department will, within the next few days, begin installation of another 15 surveillance cameras in different places to monitor traffic as well as ensure security in the emirate,” he noted. The police formed a technical committee recently and it has started assessing the needs of each and every area for extra surveillance cameras, he added.
