Tsonga will team up with Gael Monfils, Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau with Guy Forget once again taking the role of captain. It is the same line-up that defeated Canada away in their first round tie.

The Americans are expected to call up the in-form John Isner, who has just made it into the world top 10 for the first time, to play singles alongside Mardy Fish.

Forget, who is in his last year as team skipper, said his players were unanimous in choosing the slower claycourts as the surface to be used for the tie even in the knowledge that the Americans won through against Roger Federer’s Switzerland in the first round on the same surface.

“We already know that the Americans are great competitors, who love playing in the Davis Cup,” he said.

“In some way also, we wanted to take our revenge for the last time we played them away and lost (4-1 in 2008 quarter-finals).”

France have reached the Davis Cup semi-finals for the last three years running.
