“I won’t be there. The priority is to be healthy and now I have to stop. If I am in bad shape I can’t do anything,” he said in an interview published Monday in sports daily AS.

“I can’t be everywhere. After finishing the first part of the season I need to rest. I need 15 to 20 days to be in good shape for the second half of the season.

“I should have a check-up on my knees, and see how everything is going with the treatment we did,” the 25-year-old added.

Nadal, who is currently defending his Wimbledon title in London, will be replaced by Marcel Granollers, Spain captain Albert Costa said.

Spain will face the United States in the Davis Cup quarter-final in Austin, Texas on July 8-10.

The Spanish team will also include David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco.
