Karim Nagla enters semifinals

DUBAI — The 22nd Marbella Open Tennis Championship got under way with the junior under-12 and under 14-matches in boys and girls sections.

In the boys under-12 singles quarterfinals, top seed Karim Nagla outplayed Anton Bliznuik 6-3 6-0 to move into the semifinals.

In another quarter-finals, Mujahid Khan got the better of fourth seed Hamdy Ismail 7-6, 6-4 to enter the semis. In other quarterfinal matches, Adham Gabr, seeded three, outplayed Zachriah Faisal 6-2, 6-0 and Christian Linge, seeded 2, thrashed Dhruv Bahl 6-3, 6-0. In the boys 14 singles first round matches, Vijay Gupta beat Akash Bisht 6-1, 6-4; Abdullah Ahli defeated Amirbek Dahler 6-1, 6-3; Abdullah Khair beat Arjun Ramaswamy 6-0, 6-0; third seed Puneeth Varier moved into the quarter-finals with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win over Fares Janahi and Risabh Ramanath also advanced after a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mustafa Al Sabek. In the girls’ under-14 quarter finals, Rikeetha Periera was a given a tough fight by Rai Sengupta in their quarterfinal match. The match, which lasted over two hours, went to deuce in almost all the games.

However, Rikeetha held her nerve to win 6-3, 6-3. In other quarter-final matches, Sanjana Sudhir outplayed simran Noronha 6-0, 6-0; Antonia Bullilan beat Nina Rebuyas 6-3, 6-4 and Nagla Gabra defeated Swetha Srikumar 6-1, 6-0. In the boys’ under-14 singles, top seed Arjuna Ajai scored an easy 6-2, 6-0 win over Vijay Gupta to move into the semifinals. In other quarter-finals, Abdullah Ahli got the better of Attila Mc Ferren 6-2, 6-3. Third seed Puneet Varrier edged past Adullah Khair 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.
