India wins Davis Cup doubles, Japan leads 2-1

India won the doubles match in a Davis Cup World Group playoff on Saturday to cut Japan’s lead to 2-1.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna beat Tatsuma Ito and Yuichi Sugita 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Japan, which won both singles matches on Friday, can secure a return to the World Group for the first time in 27 years on Sunday with a win in the two reverse singles.
