Bahrozian wins Marbella tennis tournament

DUBAI — The Bank of Sharjah 22nd Marbella Open Tennis championship concluded yesterday with the men’s singles finals.

UAE’s no. 1 and Davis Cup player Omar Bahrozian proved his return to form, with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 demolition of Troy Gillham.

In the first set, Troy kept up the pressure with his big serves and excellent net play.

He broke Omar at 3-3 and went on to win the first set 6-4.

However, Omar started pounding his ground strokes from side to side from the second set onwards, thus winning games comfortably.

Omar took the second set 6-1. Troy was a tired man by the third set, and he lost the set, and the match 6-1 to Omar.

This is Omar’s 4th Marbella Men’s title, the first of which came when he was sixteen years old.

Earlier in the doubles final, Troy and Gregory Howe got the better of Neil Bulilan and Asfond Farouk 6-1, 2-6, 10-5.

The Men’s event carried a total prize money of Dh 12,500.

In the men’s Singles semifinals of the tournament, Troy and Omar had contrasting wins.

Troy got the better of Dries Depla 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Omar blanked Gregory Howe 6-0, 6-0. In the Men’s qualifiers final, Faisal Jamil outplayed Mahrous Morhaf 6-3, 6-1.

Boys Under 14 Doubles - Fares Janahi & Adullah Ahli bt Arjuna Ajai and Karim Sobh 6-3, 7-6

Boys Under 16 Doubles – Kaushik Murli & Dylan Medonca bt Arjuna Ajai & Arjun Singh 6-3, 6-1

Boys Under 18 Doubles – Amir Madanchi & Marwan Kaissi bt Julian Montti & Pranav Walia 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
