Pledge of Honor: Tech to help youth in these challenging times

New wearables, laptop introduced to 'create intelligent new world'

Honor on Friday introduced a new line-up of devices? at the ongoing IFA Berlin, as it pledged to continue supporting the younger generation especially in this unprecedented global situation.

The brand, owned by Chinese giant Huawei Technologies, has built a following with its strategy of developing high-calibre products at affordable price points. The annual tech-focused IFA - one of the cornerstone industry events worldwide - was forced to use a virtual format for its Press conferences and presentations due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

"We really want to use our products in this special time to change something to help young people and stay together with them to face the challenges," Honor president George Zhao said in his keynote during the virtual event.?

"Honor intends to create an intelligent new world for young people...although 2020 has been a very challenging year, we insist on bringing unrivalled products at unbeatable value?

Honor has continued to expand rapidly. In its home Chinese market, the company's laptop and smartwatch segments posted year-on-year growth of 56.5 per cent and 82.3 per cent, respectively, during the first half of 2020. Its Honor Vision smart TV, meanwhile, which was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2019, achieved a 211.4 per cent growth between the first and second quarters of 2020.?

Internationally, Honor's wearables grew 235 per cent in the first half, with the brand in the top five globally according to the International Data Corporation. Among the markets where it ranks high in this category are Russia (second), Malaysia (second), the Czech Republic (third) and India (fifth).

At the event, Honor launched two new wearables: The Watch GS Pro, their first rugged wearable that will be able to withstand the harshest of conditions and with battery life of up to 25 days; and the Watch ES, a device positioned in the fitness-fashion segment. The former has passed 14 stringent tests, including its ability to survive in saltwater.

The company also introduced its newest laptop, the MagicBook Pro, which Honor says is aimed at creators. The 16.1-inch device has an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor, 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid state drive. It also features up to 11 hours of battery life and multi-screen collaboration, in which users can connect Honor or Huawei smartphones and transfer files, among others, seamlessly.

Honor also highlighted its collaboration with partners to support education, including collaborations with UniDays and University Box, to enable students to access their products at lower prices.
