Du eSIMs now available for new iPhone XS, XR

Dubai - UAE among 24 countries where eSIMs are functioning

Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) on Thursday announced the availability of eSIMs for the latest models of Apple's iPhone.
In a statement, the Dubai-headquartered telecom operator known as du said: "Users can now activate an additional cellular plan, making it easy to use two different phone numbers or separate voice and data plans on one device."
Khaleej Times reached out to du for comment but a spokesperson was not available as at Press time.
eSIMs - embedded SIMs - do not require a physical card and allows users to switch numbers or networks in an easier way.
On November 11, Virgin Mobile, the second brand operating under EITC, launched its own eSIM offering.
The UAE's first telecom firm, etisalat, had earlier launched its eSIM offerings on November 30.
While eSIMs are not new to the UAE - it has been working on the Apple Watch Series 3 on etisalat since May this year - it had taken a while to bring the technology to iPhones as the right infrastructure were being put in place.
The UAE is in elite company: from an initial 10 countries, there are now 24 territories and 45 carriers that now support eSIM on Apple's smartphones.
