Dubai is fast becoming a smart city - so much so that with the Dubai Police's smart app, you can send an emergency alert straight to the authorities.
By touching the SOS button, you can alert the police about any emergency, to which assistance will come through. However, the police have warned users against using the SOS button for testing.
The General Department of Artificial Intelligence recently launched the latest update to the police's smart app for Android users. This version has already been running on iPhones for quite some time now.
To anyone who hasn't downloaded the app yet - now is the time to do it. The new design of the app and its features have been revamped, making them more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
Now, one will be able to clearly see and access a host of new services that the Dubai Police are offering through the app.
The accident prediction service is just one of them. While there are several navigation app options around, the Dubai Police's version - called 'Drive Mode' - boasts of an additional feature. Once a motorist saves his or her favourite routes, the app can send daily notifications about the traffic movements on these roads.
Users can also forget about Google when they need to find the nearest police station, hospitals, pharmacies and payment centres - as the app can handle that for them. These essential points of interest are all mapped out accurately on the 'My Map' feature. Those who are into volunteer work, on the other hand, will be able to find a list of community service options through the app's 'Volunteer Opportunity' feature.
Other old app features have been updated as well, including being able to use your phone to take a photo of a traffic accident or a violation and send it straight to the police. All in One Camera allows you to use your phone camera for many services, including Police Eye, We are all police and vehicle obstruction reporting.
Brig-Gen Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, director-general of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Dubai Police, urged the public to make the most of the smart app's new features, as they are designed to give everyone a faster, better access to government services.
"Updating the Dubai Police app is part of the step to keep pace with the development that Dubai has been witnessing in providing public services," he added.
The latest police news, from different social media platforms, can also be accessed in just one tap.
On top of that, the new app is available in seven languages: Arabic, English, French, Chinese, German, Russian and Spanish.
And if a user is not happy with the features, the police would know as the services are connected to happiness indicators that can check customer satisfaction. This way, the authorities would be able to address the issue and continuously improve the app.
