Facebook was down - it's true!
Netizens and social media enthusiasts' worst nightmare came true on Saturday as the popular social networking website went 'down' for maintenance - for a while.
According to media reports, Facebook users around the world found themselves unable to access the social network through their desktop computers.
The California-based site outage has left users unable to share links or post articles.
The outage also affected the facebook app on iOS devices.
Facebook status detector website, Down Detector, which tracks outages across the globe, showed users reporting issues with the Facebook website throughout the UK, parts of mainland Europe and the USA.
Issues were also reported in Pakistan and UAE.

The site was down for nearly 20 minutes of outage, which caused panic around the world. There were also reports of Instagram (popular multimedia content sharing app) going down.
Facebook co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg came out of his Twitter hiatus to assure users that engineers were working on the issue:

Facebook boasts of 2 billion monthly users around the world, according to their latest report issued in June, with over 8.7 million Facebook users in the UAE. Instagram has 700 million monthly users, as of April this year, with an estimated 1.2 million users in the country.
