Micromax makes foray into UAE

Indian mobile phone maker Micromax Informatics Ltd on Tuesday officially began its foray into the UAE market at a launch event in Dubai.

The company — India’s largest handset maker in terms of units shipped — also simultaneously started its operations in Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.

“We are very excited about the market opportunity Dubai offer,” said Vikas Jain, Business Director of Micromax Ltd.

The company said its handsets would be aimed at the youth.Micromax has signed agreements with local firms to be their official distributors — 2020 Mobile for the UAE, Molecules Group of Companies for Oman and Jumbo Electronics for Qatar and Kuwait.

Notable features of Micromax’s handsets include a battery life of up to 30 days, motion sensor games and the ability to act as a universal remote control for televisions, air conditioners and others.

The company also recently launched its operations in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Micromax said that the prices of its handsets would range from Dh129 to Dh599.
