HUAWEI has taken the wraps off its newest flagship, and the technology giant is holding no punches when it comes to the innovation packed in its latest device. The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is a very imposing 6.39-inch smartphone, ready to claim its spot atop the rankings of the smartphone world - and its specs are sure to back it up.
The Mate 20 Pro will come in two RAM configurations, 6GB and 8GB, and in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. This means that there's a variety for all types of users, for the casual ones to the social media-savvy to those who want to capture every moment in their life.
The Mate 20 Pro is HUAWEI's first device powered by the new Kirin 980 chip, the latest in the company's very own line of mobile processors. The 7-nanometre chip - compared to its predecessor, the 10-nanometre Kirin 970 - promises 75 per cent improved performance and 58 per cent better power efficiency.
But the real beauty of the Kirin 980 is its most powerful offering: artificial intelligence (AI). HUAWEI believes that AI should not be limited to software, thus it pioneered bringing AI to hardware itself. And with the Mate 20 Pro bearing a more advanced Master AI, coupled with an improved dual Neural Processing Unit, this smartphone will take user experience to the next level.

The camera system on the Mate 20 Pro builds on the momentum of the triple-lens camera system that HUAWEI pioneered in its most recent premium device, the P20 Pro. While still coming with three cameras, the company has made improvements, which users will definitely find very useful.
The Leica-branded system comprises a 40MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.8, a 20MP telephoto lens and an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor, guaranteeing bright shots with a wider range of capture. It also has an improved macro shot, which can take clear photos of subjects as close as up to only 2.5cm.
But for all the hardware boosts, AI is once again the star of the show: think of the Mate 20 Pro's camera as a 'thinking lens'. Combined with AI, the smartphone's camera brings out some of the best photos you can ever imagine. It recognizes a plethora of scenes, making sure your shots have the right blend of its subject complemented by the background and other surrounding scenes.
In conjunction with the Kirin 980 chip, processing images is also significantly higher: image signal processing is 46 per cent faster and has 33 per cent better recording latency, all while being 23 per cent more power-efficient.
Biometrics are also taken a step further with the fingerprint sensor directly embedded in the Mate 20 Pro's screen; it has been strategically placed at the centre, a natural position to make it an easy reach for your thumb.
Compared to Qualcomm's latest processor, the Snapdragon 845, HUAWEI says the Kirin 980's performance is 37 per cent better and has a power efficiency that is 32 per cent higher. The time it takes for apps to launch is at a blazing 0.3 seconds.
Already being among the best when it comes to battery life, HUAWEI has powered up the Mate 20 Pro even more. It comes with huge 4200mAh battery, meaning you don't have to worry about power for a whole day - and even beyond. Its SuperCharge function has also been improved: the Mate 20 Pro's battery shoots up to 70 per cent in just half an hour, compared to just 58 per cent in SuperCharge's previous generation.
But when it comes to power, users are sure to be happy with the newest feature to when it comes to batteries: wireless charging. The Mate 20 Pro can now charge without any need for a power socket or cables, and it's twice as fast versus others in the market.
And there's also a more important function added to the Mate 20 Pro's wireless charging capabilities: it also has reverse wireless charging, meaning it can act as a charger for other devices, such as smartphones, headsets and others that support it. Users are guaranteed on the safety of the Mate 20 Pro's, as it comes with TUV safety certification.
The front camera has a 24MP sensor, but HUAWEI has added an infrared laser system that enables more accurate face-recognition system. The dot projector and flood illuminator on it provides more accuracy for an even faster unlocking experience.
The all-new EMUI 9.0, HUAWEI's signature platform on its mobile devices, now comes with an even cleaner look and is sheer viewing pleasure for your eyes. And if there's something you need to know about your device, you don't have to open your browser and search: just open HUAWEI Tips, and all your questions will be answered. Navigating has never been easier on a smartphone.
All these put together are a winning combination - but the real winners are us, the users: the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is finally here, a smartphone that is poised to be the best device in the market.
