Turning potential into performance and vision into execution

From being the youngest woman in New York boardrooms to rebuilding a whole new eco-system in UAE, Nisreen Shocair setting new benchmarks

What inspired you to start your business, and how do you envision it evolving in the next five years within the UAE’s dynamic market?

My inspiration came from a simple but powerful observation: the region is flowing with creativity, talent, and ambition, yet many individuals and businesses struggle to translate their ideas into meaningful, measurable outcomes that can scale regionally and globally. I founded Shocase to bridge that gap — to turn potential into performance and vision into execution. The UAE was the ideal place to begin, with its multicultural ecosystem, its appetite for innovation, and its remarkable pace of progress.

Over the next five years, we are scaling globally while deepening our impact locally. We will continue helping entrepreneurs and brands find their long-term economic presence, expand into new markets, and navigate increasingly complex challenges through creativity, data-driven strategy, and strong networks. The UAE’s dynamic market gives us a launchpad for global relevance, and we plan to build on that momentum.

How do you believe the culture and business environment of the UAE have influenced your business practices and overall strategy?

The UAE’s culture is rooted in ambition, inclusivity, and forward thinking — all qualities that have profoundly shaped the way I operate. Here, ideas are welcomed, collaboration is encouraged, and growth is accelerated through supportive infrastructure. The ease of establishing and scaling a company allows founders to focus on innovation rather than bureaucracy. This environment has strengthened my belief in agility, speed of execution, and cross-cultural connection. It has also reinforced the importance of empathy and human-centered leadership - values that strongly influence how I build teams, support entrepreneurs, and develop long-term creative and strategic partnerships.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as an entrepreneur in the UAE, and how have you overcome them?

Every stage of my journey came with its own challenges — from being the youngest woman in New York boardrooms earlier in my career, to navigating the male-dominated world of tech, to rebuilding a whole new eco-system when I moved to the UAE. The greatest challenge, however, has always been proving yourself before you’re taken seriously.

I overcame this by focusing relentlessly on performance, persistence, and deep knowledge of my work. I am a believer that resilience without persistence and without consistency amounts to just a lot of hard work. I built strong teams and surrounded myself with mentors who continue to guide me today. I learned that rising above challenges requires resilience, clarity of vision, and the confidence to trust your voice -especially when you’re underestimated.

In what ways does your business incorporate sustainability and social responsibility, particularly in the context of the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future?

At Shocase, sustainability and social responsibility are embedded in the work we do, especially in the areas of economic opportunity, inclusivity, and talent development. Some of the core initiatives I am most proud of include:

Returnships: Supporting women re-entering the workforce after raising families, which strengthens both household economics and the broader economy.

Neurodiversity empowerment: Creating pathways for neurodiverse individuals to learn, work, and build fulfilling careers in the UAE.

Cultural bridging: Connecting the East and West through projects rooted in cultural understanding rather than economic gain.

Each of these contributes to building a more inclusive, resilient, and human-centered society — which aligns closely with the UAE’s long-term sustainability vision.

How has technology played a role in your business growth, and what technological trends do you believe are shaping the future of industries in the UAE?

Technology is the enabler and no longer a separate business unit, especially with AI. Tehcnology is fundamental to growth, creativity and expanding beyond your comfort zone, especially as industries continue to grow beyond any human’s ability to keep up.  What’s exciting now is the intersection of creativity, data, and innovation. When I moved from music, entertainment into fashion and tech, I gained a deeper understanding of digital ecosystems and how technology elevates business performance. The trends shaping the UAE’s future include:

> AI-powered personalisation and analytics — with a human touch

> Automation across operations and customer experience — that carries strict KPIs that benefit the end consumer

> Digital commerce and global scalability — Across social, B2B, B2C, C2C, etc

> Ed-tech and upskilling platforms: Attitude to learning has changed drastically since covid

SaaS has changed the way we move and innovate our tech. platforms – and the move to headless systems is only the beginning of the end of SAP/ORACLE branded organisations. You no longer have to take the good with the bad

The UAE is not just adopting these trends - it is shaping them. This forces businesses to stay agile, forward-thinking, and ready to experiment.

Can you describe the importance of networking and partnerships in your business journey, particularly within the UAE’s unique business landscape?

I love being around people, so relationships and networking come natural to me.  Relationships built on trust, authenticity, and shared values have opened doors that strategy alone never could. My networks in New York, London, and the region helped me build bridges, launch brands, and develop long-term ventures that continue to grow today.

In the UAE, partnerships are essential because the ecosystem thrives on collaboration. Entrepreneurs must engage with peers, industry leaders, mentors, and even competitors. The right conversations can shift entire trajectories. Strong networks helped Shocase launch more than 200 creative brands, many of which have exited at valuations exceeding $100 million.

Your time is your most value commodity, your network should add  to your networth not take away from it. So attend as many events that are meaninfrul to you as possible. Drop the rest.

What advice would you offer to emerging entrepreneurs in the UAE who aspire to make a significant impact in their respective industries?

My advice is grounded in experience and in watching hundreds of entrepreneurs succeed and fail.

Don’t romanticize entrepreneurship. It is a 24/7 responsibility, not a fantasy of freedom.

Be clear about your priorities. Alignment between your business and personal life is crucial for sustainability.

Say yes only when it serves your vision. Discipline will take you further than enthusiasm alone.

Build resilience early and teach it to the next generation.

Don’t wait for perfection. Start, iterate, adapt without glamourizing failure.

Be authentic. “Fake it till you make it” has no place in sustainable entrepreneurship.

Know when to pause or pivot. Switching between entrepreneurship and employment is not failure, it’s strategy.

Most importantly, believe in yourself more than anyone else does. Your path will not look like anyone’s on social media and that’s exactly how it
should be.
