Arriving in the UAE as a young professional in the early 1990s, I could not have imagined the remarkable journey that lay ahead. Today, reflecting on my experiences with a positive mindset, I feel profound gratitude to this extraordinary nation — a country that transforms the impossible into reality and inspires countless individuals through its vision, opportunities, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Beginning my medical practice on Naif Road, Dubai, I was introduced to a city on the rise. Every corner of the city reflected ambition and progress — from the historic streets of Deira to the evolving skyline of Sheikh Zayed Road. I remember admiring the iconic villas of Jumeirah, envisioning a future built not only on professional success but also on contributing meaningfully to society. Over the years, that vision has blossomed into reality, guided by determination, hard work, and the unwavering support of a nation that nurtures talent and innovation. Today, the UAE is not just my home; it has become a second home for millions of expatriates who have discovered opportunity, stability, and recognition within its welcoming embrace.

Witnessing the transformative growth of the UAE over the decades has been nothing short of inspiring. Institutions like the Dubai World Trade Centre have fostered global business connections, Emirates airlines has soared to become a world-class carrier connecting continents, and the Department of Economic Development has implemented investor-friendly policies that have strengthened entrepreneurship and innovation across sectors. Being part of initiatives such as the Dubai Quality Award in the 1990s allowed me to experience firsthand the nation’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement — a commitment that remains as strong today as it was then.

Beyond economic and infrastructural progress, it is the UAE’s core values that have left a lasting impression on me personally and professionally. Unity, tolerance, safety, and humanitarian outreach are not mere ideals here — they are lived experiences that shape the fabric of society. These values foster a sense of belonging and purpose, encouraging individuals to dream big, pursue excellence, and contribute positively to their communities. In recognition of these efforts, I was deeply honored to receive the Icon of UAE Award in 2023, alongside accolades for Fathima Healthcare Group’s contributions to advancing healthcare in the country. Such recognition is a testament to the UAE’s ethos of valuing dedication, promoting innovation, and celebrating individuals and organisations that strive to make a difference.

The journey of the UAE itself is a source of inspiration. Over the past five decades, this nation has witnessed remarkable growth in all spheres — education, healthcare, infrastructure, business, technology, and culture. Decades of visionary leadership have transformed deserts into vibrant cities, dreams into tangible achievements, and ambitions into realities. It is this spirit of determination, resilience, and innovation that motivates every resident to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress and to uphold the values that make the UAE unique.
