Safetex Group: Necessity is the mother of invention

To help fight Covid-19, Safetex Group, one of the UAE's largest manufacturers of textile materials, has launched a new brand - Safe & Care

Safetex Group recently launched a new brand for healthcare solutions - Safe & Care - in the UAE. Under the brand, the company manufactures protective clothing and masks for the UAE market.
Talking about the new brand, Safetex Chairman and CEO Muhammad Saleem Ahmed said that in March, soon after the lockdown, business had taken a difficult turn for Safetex. He then had to take the timely decision to repurpose the textile machineries to create life-saving masks and personal protective clothing for hospitals and airlines.

"With the lockdown mandated by the UAE Government to curb the spread of Coronavirus or Covid-19, our textile business was not immune to the economic downturn. But I immediately took the decision to convert our facilities to manufacture masks and coveralls that also saved the job of our 300 employees."

Thus, Safe & Care came into existence in the first week of March 2020 and within a period of three months, the facility today manufactures 60,000 pieces of masks and 3,000 pieces of coveralls a day.

"I am proud to say that we are the pioneers in identifying the demand of the healthcare market and the only UAE-based manufacturer to produce these lines of protective textiles," Ahmed says.
The range, which is water-resistant, breathable, anti-static, and dust-proof, includes disposable medical supplies, disposable beddings and masks. All the products are made from local produce sourced within the UAE. "This way, there is a boost in the local economy and we are the only company in the UAE to do so."

Within a short period of time, Safe & Care is one of the approved suppliers in all the major hospitals in the UAE as well as to airlines such as the Emirates and Etihad and has recently signed an agreement to supply to FlyDubai.

Specialists in different types of fabrics such as 100 per cent combed cotton, poly cotton, modal, bamboo and microfibre suitable for home textiles, Safetex exports top quality fabric to the US, Brazil, Middle East countries as well as the Philippines.

The Group is also a champion in environment saving. Its fibre materials are recycled from plastic waste to make pillows and bedding products.
