On December 2, 1972, as the United Arab Emirates celebrated its first anniversary of formation, a young 24-year-old man named Saeedullah Mian Muhammad Saeed arrived from Pakistan, carrying hope in his heart and determination in his hands.

Soon after, he began his first professional job at ITL – International Trading Limited, working as an accountant. Like many who came during the nation’s earliest days, he contributed quietly and steadily to the foundation of a country just beginning its remarkable rise.

His journey took a defining turn on November 10, 1973, when he joined the Dubai Electricity Company (DEC) as an accounts clerk. Through commitment, integrity, and relentless hard work, he progressed within the organisation and witnessed one of its most historic milestones: the merger of DEC and the Dubai Water Department (DWD) in 1992, forming the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

Throughout his career, Saeedullah made significant contributions to Dewa’s growth and modernisation. He worked extensively with the Kanoo Group, playing a key role in financial coordination and systems upgrades. Later, he became an important part of Dewa’s transition to SAP, contributing to the implementation of the system that transformed the organisation’s billing and operational processes. His dedication helped shape Dewa into one of the region’s most advanced utilities.

In 1975, Saeedullah married Shahnaz, bringing her to the UAE and beginning a new chapter filled with partnership and purpose. The couple first lived in Deira, though their dream was always to settle in Karama, which they eventually did. During this time, they also benefited from the free medical services provided by Sheikh Rashid in government hospitals, which supported the health and well-being of their growing family. Their children were born in Rashid Hospital and Al Wasl Hospital (known today as Latifa Hospital). Saeedullah’s vision of providing the best education for his seven children was eventually fulfilled.

As Dubai flourished, so did their family. Their home moved through many of the city’s iconic neighborhoods: Deira, Karama, Al Qusais, Blue Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road, and Jafiliya. For many years, their household was alive with activity — daughters, son, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren all lived together, filling the home with warmth, love, and laughter.

Life shifted in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic changed the world. Four of their children embarked on journeys abroad — two daughters to Canada, two to the United States, and their son to Saudi Arabia. Only two daughters remained with them in the UAE, continuing to share everyday life with their parents.

After an exceptional 47 years of service — almost half a century, Saeedullah retired in April 2021 as senior manager – Billing Department. In recognition of his lifelong contribution and unwavering loyalty, Dewa honored him with the UAE Golden Visa — a testament to the value of his dedication to the nation he helped support and grow.

Having lived in the UAE for over five decades, Saeedullah considers the country more than just a workplace or home — he sees it as his true home. He has witnessed its transformation from quiet sandy roads to a thriving, modern city and feels a deep connection and sense of belonging. For him, the UAE is a land of opportunity, stability, and family, where he built not only a career but also a life enriched with love, memories, and community.

Today, Saeedullah lives in Jumeirah with his wife Shahnaz and is proudly celebrating the 54th UAE National Day, reflecting on a lifetime intertwined with the nation’s remarkable journey.

His story is one of resilience, gratitude, and unwavering commitment. It is the story of a man who not only saw Dubai rise, but played a meaningful part in its journey. From the sands of the 1970s to the vibrant skyline of today, the life of Saeedullah remains a shining example of hard work, family values, and the enduring spirit of the UAE.
