Stanton Warriors, in Dubai this weekend, talk the future of house music
This Friday #DXBExperiments presents its latest pop-up concept, Underground, a free-entry music event from 8pm with award-winning British DJ duo Stanton Warriors headlining at the Media One Hotel. We caught up with the pair to find out more.
What have you got planned for your Dubai #DXBExperiments set?
Lots of low down booty shaking beats & bass both classic and new!
What is Dubai's reputation in the DJ community?
Well speaking from our own experience having played there many times over the last 20 years it's great. I think most DJs agree!
Where is the best place to DJ in the world?
We played on a floating island near Fiji last month and that took some beating in regards to how stunning it was and how friendly everyone was!
Are you positive about the future of house music? What would you like to see change?
We just keep on pushing our own sound as there is so much 'cookie-cutter' music out there. Music should always be evolving or it gets boring!
What projects are you currently working on?
We have just released an album, so at the moment we are just making fun tracks to use in our DJ sets. But I think we have inadvertently made another album!
Do you think the time when you broke out was the optimum time for your music or would you like to be starting out today?
We were lucky at the time (around 2000). Now it's a much busier playing field and everyone has instant access to everything! Either way if we were to have started now we would rise to the challenge!
What would your advice be for anyone trying to get into the industry?
Originate don't duplicate! It's the only way to get noticed. Come with something fresh!
Who are the DJs we should be watching out for in 2020?
Mafia Kiss, Prospa & marten Horger! All making and playing their own unique sound!
If you had to choose - Coachella, Glastonbury or Burning Man?
That's a tough one! Probably Glastonbury! Home turf innit!
