A mesmerising spell by Vinay Tolani (4.4-1-25-7) was the highlight as Dubai Mammoths trounced ABB by six wickets in Group A of the DCC Silver Challenge Cup which was played at the Fairground of the Dubai Men's College over the weekend.
ABB won the toss and Ishan Zutshi and Amandeep Singh gave them a solid start with a 34-run partnership. Zutshi fell for 27 from 26 balls (5x4) but Amandeep (47) and one-down Syed Hussain (30) went hell for leather with a 69-run partnership.
ABB at this stage looked at scoring over 200 runs but man of the match Vinay Tolani put a spoke in their plans with wickets at regular intervals. Once he removed these two batsmen, there was no stopping him as he cut through the ABB batting line-up like a hot knife through butter. Somashekhar Kanthi (26 n.o.) and Karthik Pushparaj (23) put up a semblance of a fight to help ABB reach 163 all out in 24.4 overs.
But unbeaten knocks from Vinay Mehra (45) and Yakoob Masi (45) coupled with some power hitting from Ambey Parwatkar (31) and Shiva Pagarani (25) helped Mammoths reach their target with six wickets to spare.
In another match, half centuries from Angad Ajoankar and Santosh Kotian saw Raging Bulls beat Rowdy XI by 15 runs in a high-scoring match.
Winning the toss Angad (52, 2x6, 5x4, 38b) and man of the match Santosh (52 not out, 1x6, 3x4, 39b) blasted the Rowdy attack.
