Venus Williams beat Serena Williams 4-6, 6-3 (10-8) to win the one-off woman's match of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Thursday.
In a highly entertaining match, Serena took an early lead. At 5-3 in the first set there was a cute moment when Serena dropped it short but Venus was up to the task with a softer return with backspin to the younger sister. Those drop shots and counters were followed by the best rally of the match, and once again Venus got the better off Serena with a tricky lob. Match was then at 5-4 but Serena closed the set 6-4.
However, at 1-1 in the second set, Venus let few tight baseline shots and Serena struck a hands-on-hip pose after a ferocious forehand. Venus broke to a 3-1 lead but Serena returned to make it a close by taking two points. However, Venus held on to take the second set 6-3.
And in the tie-breaker, Venus set the tone with a cross-court shot and eventually clinched the close match 10-8.
