Leading jockey Patrick Dobbs partnered My Catch to an easy win in the 1200m TB Handicap, the highlight of the second race meeting at the Meydan on Thursday.
"He's a tricky horse to train," said winning trainer Doug Watson later. "He's a turf horse, but did it very well on dirt," he added.
The winner clocked 1.11.57 seconds, which is less than second outside the track record which was set by Secret Circle in the Dubai Golden Shaheen last March and for the Red Stables handler Doug Watson, My Catch could have improved his time under pressure.
My Catch has won by six and half lengths on the bridles and his rider was always trying to stop him.
"He likes to run and you can see how Patrick is finding it difficult to stop him after crossing the finish line," Watson told Khaleej Times.
However, it was a quick double for Patrick Dobbs after he teamed up with trainer Ismail Mohammed to bring Murasil home in a spectacular fashion in the 1600m TB Maiden. The five-year-old son of Elusive Quality came full of running in the concluding stages to see off Sky Jockey (Satish Seemar/Richard Mullen) and give owner Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum a 1-2 finish. Early leader Lake Hawk, ridden by Tadhg O'Shea was relegated to third across the line.
Desert Wings worked his way through to prevail by a short-head in front of Conquerant at the busy end in the 1400m TB Handicap third race on the card.
Ridden by Richard Mullen and trained by Satish Seemar, the five-year-old gelded son of the Breeders' Cup champion Raven's Pass raced against the fences and was always tracking the leading pair until a gap developed and he was in the clear.
It was a treble for Dobbs and a double for his boss Doug Watson when he turned the fourth race into a one-horse contest aboard One Man Band to lead by five lengths in the 1600m TB Handicap contest. "He's in a good form and has answered all my questions," Dobbs said later. "
Need To Know finished second while Muhtaram came from a long way back to take third under Fernando Jara.
Kifaah lived up to his name and cruised to a sweeping victory in the fifth race, a 1200m TB Handicap, under Dane O'Neill in the silks of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance.
Trained by Ali Rashid Al Raihe at the Grandstand Stables, the four-year-old Dubawi colt left the machines very quickly and led all the way to open five lengths gap and won gamely.
