Dutco enjoyed back-to-back wins by large margins in the Sprite Cricket Stars tournament held at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City this weekend.
Batting first against NICO International, Dutco posted a highly impressive score of 156 runs from their eight overs, scoring at nearly 20 runs an over. In response, NICO could only muster 63 runs, which on its own is very commendable, given the mammoth task that was set before them.
It was a similar scenario in the second match they played on the outdoor pitches, with Dutco putting up a whopping 122 runs against AWR B, before restricting their opponents to just 35. The Sprite Cricket Stars tournament is held annually in the UAE by the global soft drink brand to fete the large labour force that work in the region, giving them an amazing opportunity to play on international-standard pitches, something all of us continually dream of doing.
Twenty-four teams, consisting of the various labour camps, take part in this tournament, with the final of the tournament taking place at one of the international stadiums.
Dutco were not the only team to win both matches over the weekend. SS Lootha also recorded two wins in two, first overcoming AWR A by easing past their target of 41, and did excellently to lose no wickets in the process. They then followed that up with a superb seven-wicket win against EFS, as they easily went past their set target of 79 with five balls to spare.
