Chennai Super Kings' batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad will miss out the opening IPL 2020 match against the defending champions Mumbai Indians as he is yet to clear the two mandatory Covid-19 tests.
Gaikwad is said to be in isolation in a facility outside the team hotel. Gaikwad is also said to be asymptomatic after completing two weeks of quarantine.
"We are waiting for BCCI to give us a clearance on Gaikwad. He has to undergo the fitness tests (as well)," Kasi Viswanathan, Super Kings' chief executive officer, told ESPNcricinfo.
Earlier, CSK were hit by the late withdrawals of two of their star players Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh. Raina, who had reached UAE along with the team, decided to pull out of the tournament due to family reasons. Harbhajan did not fly with the team and was expected to join the team later. However, the Punjab spinner also decided to pull out of the tournament due to family reasons.
