Seraphin Du Paon, Olivier Peslier up, lived up to the expectations of his trainer Philippe Barbe to land the 2000m Purebred Arabians Dubai Kahayla Classic Group-1.Seraphin Du Paon is owned by His Highness the President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Kieren Fallon set the early pace with Rabah De Carrere before his mount ran out of gas and gave way to the heavy traffic from behind. Nieshan under Christophe Lemaire made a quick move in the home turn to briefly ahead of No Risk Al Maury under Richard Hills, before the pair was attacked by Seraphin Du Paon close home.
This was the second Group-1 glory for the Akbar son who has earlier landed the Purebred Arabians President Cup Group-1 at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club early last month.
The French trainer expected his horse to win the Kahayla Classic and win it easily and this was what has happened in reality.
Olivier Peslier placed his mount at the tail of the field and the horse was always going well until the pack took the home turn with two furlongs remaining. At this stage, Seraphin Du Paon mad a smooth progress between the horses from the centre of the field and led in the last 1000 metres to emerge the easiest of winners on the line.
Olivier peslier said: “His honest, keen and was always surprising me. I expected him to win and I was quite confident that he would never let me down,” he said.
However, the opening race was not included in the public pick-seven competition, but he was apparently supported by most of racegoers to put his head first in such an spectacular finish.
Ironically, Seraphin Du Poan made it a winning start for his trainer on the tapeta which has never even trained on it.
Trainer Philippe Barbe said good horses need not to be tried on the surface in which they will be racing.
“I didn't to take him to Meydan for training. He's a quality horse and didn't need to be prepared for a particular race,” he said.
Regarding his next target, the trainer said they need to see how he would come from the race and speak to the owner about any future plans.
“The European season would be the obvious target,” he said.
