Even for a golfer with 15 Major championships and countless unforgettable victories, some moments are best left in the past. For Tiger Woods, his latest TGL outing delivered one such memory - one he now considers among his greatest embarrassments on the course.
The mishap occurred during a Tuesday night match in the high-tech, indoor golf league co-founded by Tiger and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA Tour. The league aims to modernize the sport by combining traditional golf with advanced technology, creating a fast-paced, team-based competition designed to attract a younger and more diverse audience.
Representing Jupiter Links Tiger stood on the 13th hole at the SoFi Center in Florida on Tuesday night, where he set up for his second shot, believing he had 99 yards to the pin. Confident in his club selection, he pulled out a wedge and took his swing - only to watch in disbelief as the ball landed well short of the target.
The mistake? He had misheard the actual yardage. Instead of 99 yards, he was 199 yards away.
As Woods stood bewildered, his teammates Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim erupted into laughter, doubling over as the reality of the blunder sank in. “I heard 99! Not 199!” Woods could be heard exclaiming in footage from the moment.
After the match, still shaking his head at the mix-up, Woods admitted, “I grabbed my 56-degree wedge and hit it 100 yards, thinking I had the right number. That’s gotta be one of the most embarrassing moments of my career.”
For a player known for legendary precision and mental toughness, the gaffe was a rare—and very public—misstep. But if there’s one thing Woods has always done well, it’s bouncing back.
