Rory McIlroy's Boston Common Golf team is on the brink of elimination after suffering a tough 6-3 loss to Justin Thomas' Atlanta Drive GC in the TGL.

This marks their fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them at the bottom of the standings with just one point. To stay in the playoff race, Boston must beat New York in their final match and hope other results fall in their favour.

The turning point in Monday's match came during the singles when McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay were tied with Atlanta on two points each. McIlroy’s approach shot missed the mark, leaving Atlanta to capitalize, claiming the hole and securing two points. "I thought I had a shot to tie, but once they went 4-2 up, it was a huge momentum shift," McIlroy admitted.

Despite a valiant effort from Boston, including Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley’s strong play, Atlanta's shots late in the game sealed the win. "We thought we could win, but Atlanta pulled through with some clutch shots," Bradley said after the match.

With the loss, Boston's playoff hopes are slim, but they still have a chance if they defeat New York and depend on other teams' results. Atlanta’s victory has already locked them into the playoffs, alongside Los Angeles Golf Club, who beat New York 5-4 earlier, and The Bay Golf Club, who remain undefeated with six points.

In a dramatic comeback, Los Angeles Golf Club overcame a 4-0 deficit against New York, securing their win in overtime after a series of impressive shots from Tony Finau and Collin Morikawa.

As the season continues, Boston’s path to the playoffs is narrowing, and the pressure is on in their final match. The top four teams will move on to the semi-finals in March, with all TGL matches available live on Sky Sports.
