Rhodes’s hole-in-one magic: How a lucky bounce off her playing partner led to an ace

The crowd reacted with disbelief at the three-time Ladies European Tour winner's feat at the AIG Women’s Open

Golf is a game that demands precision and patience at every turn, but occasionally, it also surprises players and fans alike with moments of pure, unexpected luck.

At the recent AIG Women’s Open, won by Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, LET rookie Mimi Rhodes experienced all three, with a little unexpected help from her Australian playing partner’s ball.

On the par-3 5th hole during the final round, the English golfer took a swing that will likely be remembered as one of the quirkiest aces in tournament history.

Her partner, Stephanie Kyriacou, had just executed a near-perfect shot with the ball rolling tantalizingly close to the hole before veering away at the last second.

Undeterred, Rhodes, who currently leads the LET Order of Merit standings, stepped up and launched a shot almost identical in line and distance. But here’s where things got interesting: Rhodes’ ball struck Kyriacou’s stationary ball and then ricocheted straight into the cup.

The crowd reacted with a mix of disbelief, laughter, and applause. It was a remarkable example of golf’s unpredictable charm and magical moments.

Rhodes’ hole-in-one marks the 12th such feat on the LPGA Tour this year and stands as the fourth ace achieved during a major championship in 2025. Earlier this season, the LET rookie also celebrated a hole-in-one on the Ladies European Tour, sinking her shot on the par-3 7th hole at Abama Golf in Tenerife, Spain, during the opening round of the Tenerife Women’s Open in June.

Fortune indeed favours the brave... and the lucky.
