Rayan Ahmed (UAE) and Alayna Rafique (Eng) won their respective divisions in the recent Ras Al Khaimah Mixed Open at Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah.
Ahmed, a regular winner on the UAE amateur circuit, shot rounds of 71, 64, and 73 for a 54-hole total of 208, eight under par, claiming a dominating nine-shot victory in the Men’s Division.
Rafique carded rounds of 71, 77, and 73 for a five-over total, winning the Women’s Division by four shots.
Reflecting on his performance, Ahmed said, “My game is going from strength to strength. My second round of 64 this week was a personal best.
“I am happy that all the hard work I’m putting in is now paying off, both on and off the golf course. I am embracing the mental challenge of golf week in, week out, competing, hopefully winning, and raising the flag for the UAE.”
Ahmed has a busy schedule ahead, competing in top-level amateur and professional events in the UAE and the region over the coming months.
“I am aiming for nothing less than my absolute best. All parts of my game came together this week, especially my putting, which has had a really positive impact on my scoring recently,” he concluded.
Ahmed’s second-round 64 was one of only two sub-70 rounds during the week and the best of the tournament by five shots. The round included nines of 30 and 34, highlighted by six birdies and an eagle.
Paul Booth, General Manager of Al Hamra Golf Club, said, “We set the golf course up this week as a genuine test for all the players – very similar to how we set it up for the DP World Tour – at the full yardage. Congratulations to all the winners, all those who took part, as well as all the parents for their support.”
The tournament, sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), also awarded Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, supported by The R&A, and EGF Order of Merit points.
