A sizzling 69 from UAE’s Hannah Cheryl Alan lit up the fairways at Madinaty Golf Club on Thursday as the UAE Ladies stormed into the lead after Round 1 of the Pan Arab Junior & Ladies Golf Championship in Cairo.
In a field packed with talent from 12 Arab nations, Hannah rose above the rest with a composed, clinical round — the lowest score of the day in the Ladies Division. Backed by a gritty 75 from teammate Sara Ali Abubaker, the Emirati duo combined for a two-over-par total of 144 to take a commanding three-shot lead heading into Friday’s second round
Hannah’s round wasn’t just good. It was a statement. While others faltered in the breezy afternoon conditions, she stayed cool and precise, peppering fairways and rolling in putts like she owned the course.
“Our team had a clear plan and we stuck to it,” said Hannah, who’s emerging as the tournament’s standout performer. “There’s still golf to be played, but it’s a strong start and we’re ready for the challenge.”
Abubaker’s 75, which currently places her fourth individually, gave the team a much-needed cushion over their closest rivals. While Intisar Rich’s score didn’t count in the two-best-scores format, her presence remains key as the squad aims to hold its nerve through the final stretch.
Ali Alnakby tied for second
Meanwhile, in the Boys 18 & Under Division, Rashed Ali Alnakby carded a respectable 76, good enough to tie for second individually and keep the UAE in the mix. The team sits in second place, seven shots behind a strong Moroccan contingent.
The Championship staged across the prestigious Madinaty and Katameya Dunes Golf Clubs, features over 100 players and is jointly sanctioned by the Arab Golf Federation and the Egyptian Golf Federation. It’s a true showcase of rising talent across the Arab world — and so far, the UAE Ladies are stealing the show.
With two more days of pressure-packed golf ahead, all eyes will be on Alan and her team to see if they can turn this hot start into a golden finish.
