Bryson DeChambeau clinches LIV Golf Singapore thriller in rain-soaked playoff

Richard T. Lee misses short putt, ending the sudden-death showdown at the Sentosa Golf Club

American Bryson DeChambeau captured the LIV Golf Singapore title in dramatic fashion. He won on the first playoff hole after Richard T. Lee from Canada missed a crucial two-foot par putt at Sentosa Golf Club.

“The emotions are overwhelming right now,” DeChambeau said after claiming his fourth LIV Golf individual title. “Good emotion, struggling emotion, just everything that you could possibly imagine, it’s there. But a lot of joy.”

Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC dominated the team event for the second week in a row in Asia, following their victory in Hong Kong. Johnson’s new 2026 lineup, featuring Thomas Pieters, Thomas Detry, and Anthony Kim, proved unstoppable.

“Obviously, the league gets better every single year. It gets harder to win,” Johnson said. “You’ve got to have four really good players if you want to have a chance to win. Right now, I feel like we do.”

A rain-delayed battle to the wire

Lee, the league’s first Canadian player, showcased the depth of LIV Golf with his runner-up finish—the best ever by a league Wild Card. He positioned himself for victory with a birdie at the par-5 18th, finishing five-under 66 and 10 under total.

DeChambeau, playing in the final group, also birdied the 18th to force a playoff at 14 under in rainy conditions that had already halted play twice. On the playoff hole:

  • DeChambeau initially chose a three-wood, then switched to a driver, splashing into the water hazard down the left.

  • Lee’s tee shot found the fairway bunker on the right, forcing a layup.

  • DeChambeau’s third landed in the rough past the green, while Lee’s approach left him 10 feet from the pin.

  • Lee missed the putt, giving DeChambeau the victory.

“You never want to win that way – I’ll be the first to admit that,” DeChambeau said. “Golf is a fickle and uneasy game at a lot of moments. That’s just sometimes the way the cards fall, but I just didn’t like seeing it happen.”

Lee reflected on his missed opportunity: “It was a short putt, and I wanted to just hit it hard, and I hit it a little too hard. I think the adrenaline was pumping a little bit. Then again, I felt like I had it this week. I played really well. Hopefully, next week I can try again.”

Both players showed impressive form after rain delays. DeChambeau was bogey-free and two under on the back nine, while Lee birdied four of his last six holes. They surged past Joaquin Niemann, who led before the rain but finished solo fourth after three bogeys post-delay.

Lee Westwood, making his first final-group appearance this season, shot 69 for solo third. “Really proud,” said the 52-year-old, returning from a wrist injury. “It's a while since I've been in the final group when it's meant something.”

DeChambeau praised Lee despite the missed putt: “As much as winning is great, I have a lot of respect for Richard and the way he golfs his ball out there. He's a real superstar, and the league should be really proud to have him as a Wild Card.”
