Fujairah: Iran, Korea take top honours in World Taekwondo Cadet Championships

The 7th edition of the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships took place at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah and featured over 800 male and female athletes from 93 countries

The World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025, held in Fujairah under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, concluded on Wednesday.

The 7th edition of the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships took place at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah and featured over 800 male and female athletes from 93 countries, along with Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs) and the Refugee Team.

The UAE was honoured with the Active Participation Award, while Iraq received the Fighting Spirit Award. Astorga Melgar Christopher from El Salvador was named the Most Valuable Player in the men's category, and Oh Yoon Ju from the Republic of Korea earned award in the women's category.

Among coaches, Houshyar Dindar from Iran was recognised as the Best Team Coach for men, while Eung Hyun Kim from the Republic of Korea received the Best Team Coach award for women.

In the overall standings, the men's categories saw Iran take first place, followed by Kazakhstan in second, Uzbekistan in third, Thailand in fourth, and the Republic of Korea in fifth.

In the women's categories, the Republic of Korea led the standings, followed by Chinese Taipei in second, Morocco in third, Turkey in fourth, and Iran in fifth.

Nikolai Sychev, representing AIN, earned gold in the men's 41 kg category. Dawood Fahad Al-Yusufi from Oman won silver, while Thailand's Anawin Promchana and Joshua Lepe from the USA secured bronze medals with their runs to the semifinals.

In the women's 37 kg category, Geunmi Lee from the Republic of Korea won the gold medal. Khadija Amrani from Morocco earned the silver medal, while Chatpavee Pornchaithammakhun from Thailand and Alicia Badji from Belgium secured bronze medals.

In the men's 57 kg category, Parsa Houshyar from Iran claimed the gold medal, and Ayatzhan Amirkhanov from Kazakhstan won silver. The bronze medals were awarded to Saleh Heydarov from Azerbaijan and Prokhor Naboka from Ukraine.

In the women's 59 kg category, Samar Lamlih from Morocco took home the gold medal. Ghazal Kabousi from Iran earned the silver, while bronze medals went to Yi-Syuan Jhuang Hsu from Chinese Taipei and Anastasija Jerkovic from Serbia.

The 2025 edition of the championship, which also implemented the latest Protection Scoring System (PSS), saw outstanding performances and intense competition from some of the brightest talents in taekwondo worldwide. The event was meticulously planned and exceptionally organised, receiving widespread praise from international delegations. Additionally, attendees acknowledged Fujairah and the UAE as leading global sports hubs that are adept at successfully hosting world class events.
