Shabab Al Ahli coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena pointed out that a lack of focus saw them drop two vital points against his former employers Al Wasl in the Arabian Gulf League.
The Al Quasis club were held to a 1-1 stalemate by The Cheetahs at the Rashid Stadium that saw both side finishing the game with 10 men.
Khamis Ismail was off for an early shower after the Al Wasl midfielder picked up a second booking on 51 minutes. Shabab Al Ahli ended the match with 10 men after Abdulaziz Haikal too received a second yellow card, deep in stoppage time.
Leonardo had put the hosts ahead on 17 minutes but Fabio de Lima scored from a penalty 10 minutes from time as both teams took a point apiece.
The draw, Shabab Al Ahli's second left them three points adrift of leaders Sharjah, who beat Al Nasr 3-1 at the Al Maktoum Stadium. Sharjah have 23 points, while Shabab Al Ahli are on 20 points.
Al Wasl, meanwhile, are sixth on the table with 12 points with this being their third stalemate.
And Arruabarrena felt that a drop in intensity in the second half allowed the visitors a way back into the game.
"We are all responsible for the result. We lost two points in our quest for the League," said Arruabarrena.
"The team lacked focus in the second half. We played well in the first half and managed to take the lead. But we committed a few mistakes offensively and we then lacked focus in the second half. Our focus is now in rectifying those errors during training as we prepare for our next game," he added.
Shabab Al Ahli are on the road to Khor Fakkan, while Al Wasl host Al Jazira, who are fourth in the standings, at the Zabeel Stadium. Both the fixtures are on Friday.
Meanwhie, Sharjah host Ajman at the Sharjah Stadium on Thursday night.
Bani Yas beat Hatta 1-0; Sharjah beat Al Nasr 3-1; Al Dhafra drew with Ittihad Kalba 1-1; Al Wahda drew with Khor Fakkan 2-2; Shabab Al Ahli drew with Al Wasl 1-1.
