Al Wasl and Fujairah, with six points each, lie eighth and ninth in the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) after five rounds, and the clash on Saturday at Al Wasl in Dubai will affect the lower table positions.
Al Wasl had to work very hard before chalking out a 2-1 victory when playing at Al Shaab last week while Fujairah drew with bottom of the table Al Dhafra 1-1 in Fujairah in round five action. Al Dhafra occupy 12th spot currently in the 14-team championship with two points while newly promoted Al Shaab and city rivals Sharjah are in 14th and13th berths.
For the Cheetahs (Al Wasl) it was only the second victory of the league this season thanks to second half goals by Fabio de Lima and Edgar Bruno. Had not Al Shaab keeper Ismail Rabee brought off a couple of superb saves, Al Wasl would have gained a much better goal difference than the minus two they have at the moment as compared to the minus four of Fujairah.
That Lima is constantly hitting form will be of comfort to the hosts today. The home fans will also be looking forward to Lima do the playmaking in a big way like the way he assisted Bruno to rifle home a volley for his first League goal of the season since his summer switch from Al Shabab. However, Al Wasl keeper Rashed Ali's tendency to lose concentration might be of a worry to the home defence which otherwise looks competent.
Fujairah goalkeeper Mohammad Salem was in fine form in the fifth round against Al Dhafra and striker Patrick Eze's great dribbling and shooting skills will add strength to the visitors' plans today.
